The Bobbe and Jerry Marcus Respite Care Grant Program
This program provides assistance for respite care to family caregivers of ALS patients. We offer grants of up to $1,250 per family per year to provide the caregiver some regular interval of renewal—for business or social activities, a weekend getaway, or even to get a full night’s sleep. Our goal is to allow the caregiver to briefly rejuvenate themselves and return refreshed to this often overwhelming responsibility.
To be eligible for respite assistance, the patient must have a confirmed diagnosis of ALS; reside in the Chapter's service area of DC, Maryland, or Virginia; and be registered with the ALS Association - DC/MD/VA Chapter. To participate in the program, caregivers need to complete an application. Grants are subject to the availability of funding.
The Bobbe and Jerry Marcus Respite Care Grant Program was initiated by a donation from Crystal Marcus August (a former board member of the Chapter) and her brother, Thomas Marcus, in memory of their parents. Additional funding is provided through generous contribution from Chapter donors.
