In honor of my Nama, I am eager to participate in the Walk to Defeat ALS! At only age 67, my Grandmother was diagnosed with ALS in January 2017, and this awful disease stole her life only 6 months after that. DEVESTATED doesn't begin to describe the hurt I feel in my heart. My Nama was the rock of our family, my second mom, and the woman who taught my mom how to be the amazing mom that she is. She is my inspiration for becoming an active member in the WALK TO DEFEAT ALS! Ever since she was diagnosed, this has taken a huge emotional toll on her, my Pappy, myself, my family, and all of our family friends.
I miss my Nama SO MUCH!! I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone else in the world! My hope is to help make a difference in the lives of those affected by this crippling disease, so that no other family has to go through this pain. Whether you are joing a local walk near you, or if you are able to donate to the cause, or even if you just help spread awareness - these are all ways that we can help families in our communities who's lives have been struck by ALS.
Please consider joing TEAM NAMA, in the 2018 Walk to Defeaat ALS!!!
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
