Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure

.This will be "The Fighting Wensels" 10th ALS Walk! My husband Billy was diagnosed in September of 2012 and our first walk was in October. Needless to say we were still in a bit of a haze at that point still trying to comprehend the diagnosis and all that went with it. Not knowing what to expect when we arrived at Brown's Island in Richmond the day of the walk we were absolutely astonished by the number of people - supporters, volunteers, families all coming together for this cause and the amount of joy, smiles, laughter....celebrating life and love with a purpose! Billy lived and loved to the fullest and his courage taught me so much! He lost his battle July 9th,2019 but we will continue our fight to find treatment and ultimately a cure for ALS, The money raised helps in the support for people and families living with ALS to get thru each day the best way possible. We have experienced first hand all this organization has to offer and could not have survived the way we did without the help of the ALS family. We also could not continue without our faith and support of our church family - so thank you - we love you! Life is not a journey meant to travel alone - we need the help and strength of one another to make it as meaningful as possible.. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.

That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again. 

The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.

But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
